Description: Due to the unique design of plug valves, there have been multiple incidents within the industry during online valve repair activities involving gear operators or actuator mounting brackets that have inadvertently resulted in removal of the top cap/cover bolting while the valve is in service. This presentation looked into some of the common factors between these incidents regarding the valve and gear operator/actuator mounting bracket design that contributed to the incidents, and how the valve industry is trying to prevent similar incidents in the future.

TVA has the third-largest nuclear fleet in the country. Specifically, learn about TVA’s advanced nuclear organization and plans, and what advanced nuclear designs could mean for suppliers.

Description: There have been comparisons of PFAS to asbestos, especially for the potential of future lawsuits. This session explored if that is in fact a fair comparison and the similarities and differences. This session explored the importance of working with your supply chain and customers on PFAS issues.

Title: 2024 Fire and Fugitive Emission Test Standards for Valves, Packing and Gaskets Updates

Description: After some delay due to the pandemic, in 2023, the API Committee on Refinery Equipment (CRE) published new editions of API 622, 624 and 641. These are the three primary fugitive emission testing standards for downstream valves and packing. Each standard now has the option to test up to 750F. The upstream side of API is also active in writing its first fugitive emission standard API 6Y, which will cover a variety of valves and test conditions. While ISO 15848-1 and -2 standards are not scheduled for revision for another year or so, ISO is working on a new test standard for stem seals. For fire testing, the most common API standards 607 and 6FA have had recent releases, and a new test of packing and flange gaskets is in near release. Come learn what’s new and what’s coming down the pipeline (pun intended) for these important industry updates.

These post-cleaning stages typically involve inspection, assembly, testing, final inspection and preservation before shipment. This presentation reviews best practices for manufacturing oxygen clean valves outlined in references such as CGA G-4.1 (harmonized with EIGA Doc 33) and ASTM G93, along with WHA International’s experience and research in the field of oxygen clean processes. The presentation also addresses the quality expectations associated with clean processes referenced in section 13 of CGA G-4.14 and EIGA Doc 200 for valve manufacturers. As a supplemental section, cleaning requirements for hydrogen service will also be introduced.
