MaxTorque Receives First Ship Set Order from U.S. Navy

Tuesday, May 19, 2009
MaxTorque, LLC announces today that it has received the first ship set order for operators it developed specifically for the United States Navy's new aircraft carrier platform. The manual operators will be utilized throughout the ship, the USS Gerald R. Ford (CVN-78), on over 1,200 high performance butterfly valves as well as a number of ball and control valves.

The operator utilizes MaxTorque's high efficiency double enveloping worm gears and proprietary AutoLock technology to allow a near zero backlash, virtually greaseless, fire safe design capable of 20,000 life cycles.

Incorporating MaxTorque's high performance gears also assists in achieving the design goals of the new platform by allowing a reduction in the number of turns to operate the valves by 2 to 3 times, thereby reducing the operational manpower requirement.

"This is a tremendous validation of the value of our technology from a performance and human factor standpoint,” Thomas West, President of MaxTorque said. “We are very proud that our technology and products will play a role in helping to meet the design goals of what will be the world most advanced war ship.”

CVN-78 is the first of three of the new Ford-class ships currently authorized, with a total of ten or more ships scheduled to be built.

MaxTorque, LLC supplies high performance actuation products and engineered solutions for the valve industry. It is based in Limerick, ME.
