Train Carrying Crude Oil Derails, Explodes in Lynchburg, VA

The latest in a string of oil train explosions in North America over the past several months occurred on April 30 in Lynchburg, VA. According to city officials, between 12 – 14 CSX tanker cars carrying crude oil were involved in the derailment, causing extensive flames and dense black smoke. Around 300 people had to be evacuated.

One of those who had to evacuate his office was Mike Rooney, a vice president for sales & marketing for Emerson Process Management’s Valve Automation Division (EIM), a VMA member company. More...
