2019 Valve Industry Knowledge Forum ATTENDEE REGISTRATION

The 2019 Valve Industry Knowledge Forum, Exhibits & Tours will be held April 9-11, 2019 in Birmingham, AL and is open to VMA/VRC members and industry non-members. The Forum will present three tracks of education for attendees: Technical, Manufacturing and Marketing and Management. A joint event means more meaningful dialogue between different segments of our industry during tours and networking opportunities. An Early-Bird rate available for attendees and exhibitors through February 28th.

The new Valve Industry Knowledge Forum combines the best of three different VMA meetings to create one education-packed event with three distinct educational tracks.


  • TECHNICAL EDUCATIONAL TRACK - Subject matter specifically targeted to experienced technical and engineering personnel working with valves and related products.   
  • MANUFACTURING EDUCATIONAL TRACK - Developed for those who work or supervise the production and assembly process in their companies.                           
  • MANAGEMENT AND MARKETING EDUCATIONAL TRACK - Developed for professionals new to the industry as well as those in management and marketing roles who wish to understand the various components needed to operate a successful valve business

A joint event means more meaningful dialogue between different segments of our industry, an expansion of the attendee base and the ability for individuals to learn about various areas of the valve business



Nestled at the foothills of the Appalachian Mountains at the cross-section of two major railroads, the city was once the primary industrial center of the southern United States. At the height of the nation’s manufacturing age, the city grew so fast in population, it was called the “Magic City.” Today, Birmingham boasts a vibrant downtown, as well as,  world-class culinary attractions and upscale shopping.  Birmingham also boasts many historic neighborhoods and is often referred to as the cradle of the American Civil Rights Movement.  The cross between industry and history, makes Birmingham  the perfect backdrop for this year's Valve Industry Knowledge Forum. 



End users, engineering and consulting firm personnel, distributors, various personnel within manufacturing and supplier firms, and other related industry groups and professionals. This meeting is open to both VMA/VRC members and non-members. 



Attendees to the 2019 VMA Valve Industry Knowledge Forum will receive a certificate for twelve (12) Professional Development Hours (PDHs) for attending the Knowledge Forum.  Additional hours will be given to those who attend the pre-conference workshop.




ATTENDEE -  Registration fees for VMA/VRC members will be $600 (early bird), $650 after Feb. 28. Non-member registrations fees will be $650 (early-bird) and $700 after Feb. 28.



Discounts apply when registering more than one person from a member or non-member company. The registration fee for additional registrants for VMA/VRC members is $500 (early bird) and $550 after Feb. 28. The non-member fee for additional registrants is $550 (early bird) and $600 after Feb. 28. 


The additional attendee registration fee includes the two-day seminar, speaker handouts, exhibit program, networking events and all food functions, including continental breakfasts, breaks, lunch and Welcome Reception. 



Each year VMA plans tour(s) in conjunction with the 2019 Valve Industry Knowledge Forum. All tours are open to both member and non-member attendees, as well as exhibitors. and registration is on a first-come, first served basis.  This year’s tours are the Honda Manufacturing Company automotive plant and Kamtek an automotive supplier and manufacturing operation.


Honda Manufacturing Company


Honda Manufacturing Company in Alabama is Honda’s largest light truck production facility producing the Odyssey, Pilot, Ridgeline and the V-6 engines that power them.  Since the start of production in 2001 this manufacturing facility has incorporated innovative manufacturing shared by Honda facilities around the globe.  Operations performed include steel and aluminum blanking, stamping, welding, plastic injection molding, aluminum  casting and machining vehicle assembly, engine assembly and vehicle testing.  The plant is a whopping 4.2 million square feet and produces 340,000 vehicles annually.


KAMTEK Manufacturing Company (MAGNA)


Magna is a mobility technology company and one of the world's largest automotive suppliers with 340 manufacturing operations and 96 product development, engineering and sales centers in 27 countries. KAMTEK is a metal division of Magna. Kamtek has six press lines that stamping body parts, from smaller parts up to the entire side of a Mercedes SUV, On the manufacturing floor they have  700+ robots for assembling the individual stampings into completed assemblies, two melt furnaces and four high pressure aluminum die cast machines. VMA attendees who participate on this tour, will be able to observe all of the previously mentioned processes.



A separate tour ticket(s) will need to be purchased, in addition to your registration. Tour tickets can be added to an existing registration.





A pre-conference workshop on the topic of ASME B16.34 will be offered.  Carlos Davila, will be presenting.  Mr. Davila, has over 48 years of experience in the valve industry.  This workshop will present the latest standards information on content of several Industry Standard organizations such as ASME, API and MSS. 


DEMONSTRATION - Robotics Technology Mobile Lab

A mobile demonstration lab will be available to attendees to tour as part of the Knowledge Forum Technical and Manufacturing educational tracks. The Mobile Training Unit, (MTU), is an instructional tool used by the Robotics Technology Park and its partners in Alabama.   The purpose of this lab is to promote an awareness and interest in robotic technology throughout various communities and industrial settings.  The demonstration is open to all attendees as well as registered exhibitors and does not require a ticket. 



Accommodations for the Valve Industry Knowledge Forum have been arranged with The Doubletree Perimeter Park , 8 Perimeter Park South, Birmingham, AL.  The discounted rate is $139 per night and is available April 8 -11, 2019 ONLY.  Discounted rooms on April 11th are limited.  The last day to make reservations at this special rate is March 17, 2019.

NOTE: There are two Doubletree Hotels in Birmingham.  The 2019 Knowledge Forum will be held at the Perimeter Park location, and not in downtown Birmingham. 




  • Cancellations received up to 30 days before the event are refundable, minus a 5% administration fee
  • Cancellations received between 15 and 29 days before the event are 75% refundable
  • Due to hotel event guarantees, cancellations received between 0 and 14 days prior to the day of the event are non-refundable.
  • Substitutions will be accepted for cancelled registrations and  will be accepted until April 7th online.  After April 7th, substitutes must register at the 2019 Knowledge Forum
