The topics below are from the 2022 valve basics Seminar, but are not representative of the programs content year-to-year.
In this presentation, linear valve types—gate and globe valves—are explained along with stems and bonnets. In addition, there will be an in-depth look at linear valve applications.
Our check valve presentation details the unique qualities of check valves, explains how they work and why correct sizing is so essential for this valve type. Also included is a discussion of several specific check valve applications.
We continue up the valve chain to quarter-turn valves. With quarter-turn valve designs you can go from full open to full close in the blink of an eye with a mere 90-degree rotation of the closure element. This presentation will cover plug and ball valves. While these designs might seem similar, the similarities stop at 90-degree rotation. We will discuss the basic characteristics of each configuration, their pros and cons, and some of the services they are meant for.
This portion of the quarter-turn valve presentation covers three different butterfly valve designs. Like plug and ball valves, these are very simple to operate. Over the years they have become more and more popular for services no one would have thought possible less than 30 years ago. We will discuss advantages and disadvantages during this hour.
There are dozens of important valve standards in use in North America today. But where did they come from? Who created them? Why were they written? This presentation will answer those questions as well as discuss the standards organizations themselves and how their valve documents become approved and accepted. The history of some key oil & gas valve standards will also be discussed. A list of the more critical standards used in the industry as well as their applications will be provided.
Air valves are designed to automatically release air and wastewater gases or admit air during the filling, draining, or operation of liquid piping systems. The safe and efficient operation of a liquid piping system is dependent on the continual removal of air and wastewater gases from the liquid piping system. This presentation will go over the different types of basic air valves and where they should be utilized in a pipeline along with how air in a pipeline can impact operations.
In this presentation solenoid valves are defined and explained, along with guidelines on how to make the best selection of a solenoid valve. We will also discuss the functions of a solenoid coil, how 2-way, 3-way and 4-way solenoids operate, and various applications for solenoid valves.
The focus of this presentation is on rotary and quarter-turn electric actuators. Their basic designs, common options and applications will be covered. We will discuss electric actuators from the valve stem to the electrical connection, including mounting concerns, as well as the use of quarter-turn.
An introductory presentation of what technology is being leveraged across systems; examples of how and why industry segments are adapting and benefiting.
The Petting Zoo is a small group hands-on opportunity to interact with valves, actuators and our expert presenters. This will be a time to handle, operate and investigate various valve and actuator samples. You’ll see up close the mechanisms that open and close valves and how various sealing components relate to metal valves. As you interact with the samples our presenters will be available to answer any questions related to their presentation, and cover specific applications and scenarios that may be unique to each attendee’s experience.
