Congressman Tim Murphy (PA-18) Monday presented PBM, Inc. of Irwin with the U.S. Commercial Service’s Export Achievement Award. The event took place at PBM’s facilities in Irwin, PA.

The Export Achievement Award recognizes U.S. companies that have made their first export sale or expanded their sales into overseas market with the assistance from the U.S. Commercial Service. PBM is a 109 year-old, third generation family owned small business that manufactures ball valves and specialty valves for sanitary and industrial applications.

"PBM serves as an excellent example of the caliber of companies we have in Southwestern Pennsylvania and that with the right approach and the right assistance our companies can succeed in the in the global market," said Congressman Tim Murphy. "We have the hardest-working, most dedicated workforce in the world. With a fair playing field we can compete anywhere, with anyone. PBM's work both here and now overseas helps create jobs in Southwestern Pennsylvania and is a benefit to the local economy."

PBM is no stranger to the importance of exporting. “If it weren’t for exports, we wouldn’t have as many employees as we do today. Exports are vital to our business and jobs in this area,” said Jay Giffen, Inside Sales and Marketing Manager.

Last Year, PBM was introduced to the U.S. Commercial Service Office in Pittsburgh through the Saint Vincent College Center for Global Competitiveness (CGC), to arrange the Commercial Service’s Gold Key Service in Saudi Arabia to locate a sales representative in that market. The CGC, a trade partner of the U.S. Commercial Service, is a specialized international marketing program located within the college’s Small Business Development Center (SBDC). The CGC was established in 1993 to improve economic vitality and to create sustainable growth by helping businesses compete in the new global economy.
