About the Program

This year’s 2015 VMA Manufacturers Workshop "Lean Leadership" is designed to assist managers, supervisors, and team members with a functional understanding of the key leadership skills needed to facilitate and sustain a lean transformation. The workshop will be led by Aaron W. Hughey, professor and program coordinator in the Department of Counseling and Student Affairs at Western Kentucky University. Mr. Hughey consults extensively and provides training sessions and programs on a variety of topics such as lean manufacturing, fair supervisory practices, project management, leadership/supervision, and change management. He has worked with over 80 companies, including Weyerhaeuser, A.O. Smith, General Electric, Holley, General Motors, Sumitomo, W.R. Grace, Siemens, and Monsanto.

Hands-on instruction will be used to demonstrate how leadership skills are essential to successfully implementing the lean philosophy, with an emphasis on how to work collaboratively with different personalities and styles to create a cohesive workforce that focuses on lean processes. The ultimate goal is a workforce that is driven by lean principles and lean theory focusing on: problem solving, effectively implementing change, defining and achieving goals, and being accountable.

The workshop will feature several assessment instruments, realistic case studies, and multiple opportunities to interact with other participants on a variety of tasks directly related to the topic at hand. Come prepared to roll up your sleeves and jump into the workshop with both feet!

Who Should Attend?

Mid- to senior-level management, engineering and manufacturing personnel from VMA and VRC member companies. This workshop is a VMA/VRC member's only event.

WORKSHOP TOUR APRIL 29: CORVETTE ASSEMBLY PLANT AND MUSEUM

included in registration fee

VMA has secured a private tour of the Corvette Assembly Plant and Museum for attendees of the 2015 Manufacturers Workshop. There is no additional cost for the tour, as it is included in your registration fee. Because of logistical concerns and transportation considerations, tour participation is limited to the first 50 participants. You must be registered for the Manufacturers Workshop to take the tour.

Upon arrival, you will view a brief safety video and listen to an introduction about the plant before you take the tour. You will then embark on a casual one hour, one mile walking tour of the assembly area. Due to employee breaks and production issues, the assembly line may not always be running. Watch the fascinating assembly process of America's favorite sports car, the Chevrolet Corvette. Witness an engineering marvel as the chassis and body come together in "marriage" and brand new Corvettes roll off the assembly line.

Once the tour is completed attendees will then get back on the bus for a short drive to the Corvette Museum where we will have lunch. Jeff Lamarche, Plant Manager, will then speak to the group during lunch about the assembly plant and take questions. After lunch attendees will take a guided tour of the Corvette Museum.

REGISTRATION INFORMATION

Attendee registration is open to VMA and VRC members only. Registration fee is $590 for the first registrant from a dues-paying member company and $540 for subsequent registrants. There is no limit to the number of subsequent registrants. Your registration includes continental breakfasts, lunch, breaks and Welcome Reception and the Corvette Assembly Plant and Museum tour, as well as a copy of all speaker presentations and handouts included in the Manufacturers Workshop Manual that each attendees receives.
