Obituary: Red Valve Founder Spiros Raftis

Former VMA Board member Spiros Raftis passed away on Wednesday. He
is survived by his wife of 56 years, Anastasia; his three children, George,
Cynthia and Chris; grandchildren George, Michael, Alaina,
Anastasia, Constance and Christiana Raftis; and brother Eugenia Dakis.
In 1953, Raftis founded Red Valve (Carnegie,
PA), a former VMA member company. He holds 36 U.S. and International patents,
primarily for products in the water and wastewater industry.
One of his sons, George S. Raftis II, a former CEO and president of Red Valve,
is still active in the industry and heads up Mid-Atlantic Valve and Equipment, where
grandson George Raftis III serves as sales manager.
